PRUPIM recently launched an industry leading development brief titled ‘Sustainable Development: A Framework for Decision Making’. This framework now sits at the heart of our development process and aims to promote increased understanding of sustainability issues through informed debate amongst design and construction teams.
The framework consists of a series of themed technical sheets that introduce key sustainability issues for consideration during a development project. This framework is applied to all new developments and challenges developers to think beyond best practice and regulatory compliance, stimulating, challenging and identifying simple, practical measures that could and should be adopted. By way of example, the framework states that energy consumption performance standards shall be targeted to be 25% better than Part L2 Building Regulations (2006).
Under the framework, a sustainability workshop is held at each stage of a development project (feasibility, work-up, procurement, construction) to agree targets and benchmarks. At the end of the project, a Gateway review is conducted to ensure that proper consideration has been given to all relevant matters.
We are committed to constantly reviewing this process and ensuring that it continues to reflect current legislation, prevailing best practice and the evolving expectations of our stakeholders.
