Land Use

Proportion of completed developments on brownfield land

71% (by area)

Out of 13.11 acres of developments completed during 2007, 9.31 acres was completed on brownfield land (at The Hub, Birmingham and Cunard House, Regent Street, London), representing 71% of total completed developments.
Data qualifying note:
(1) PRUPIM uses the following government definition of brownfield land to inform this KPI: “that which is or was occupied by a permanent structure and associated fixed surface infrastructure.”


Community Investment

Total community contributions through planning agreements with local authorities (including section 106)

Examples of what these contributions cover include:

  • Swan House, Poland Street, London: contribution towards affordable housing
  • Southside Reading: further contribution towards transport improvements
The amount of community contributions we make through planning agreements is subject to the number of planning approvals that go through in any one year, and also depends on the type of developments we are submitting for approval. For this reason, our total community contributions are significantly lower in 2007 than in 2006. We expect the figure to rise again in future years.

(1) All payments included in this figure were agreed during 2007 but will be payable at various stages as the individual projects proceed (i.e. they were not all paid during 2007).

We continue to register major development sites where appropriate with the Considerate Constructors Scheme www.considerateconstructorsscheme.org.uk (CCS). In 2007, this represented 100% of all new development sites. All developments listed above began on site in 2007.
