Responsible Property Investment (RPI) is a term used by PRUPIM to denote investment practices that minimise harmful impacts on the economy, society and the environment, and maximise positive effects.
The introduction of RPI principles across existing portfolios and the development of RPI property funds have been hampered by a lack of industry understanding of the effects on investment returns. However, we have undertaken extensive research in this area to help us understand how to introduce RPI techniques that will not just maintain investment returns, but improve them.
We firmly believe that the links between sustainability characteristics and investment performance will soon become more tangible, and that there is merit in considering the creation of new types of property investment vehicles that take account of sustainability risks and opportunities, as demonstrated by the launch of our Improver Portfolio.
